How to be Safely Insured in Ontario
Any Ontarians that are auto owners are mandated by law to have a minimum insurance policy coverage for the use of their vehicles on any public roads in the providence areas. This insurance coverage is known as compulsory, and it is essential to have in being safely insured in Ontario.
What to Know When Applying for Insurance
When applying for insurance in Ontario, the following information will be asked of the insured, vehicle information, Driver information and previous claims for the past six years. An applicant is encouraged to obtain copies of their motor vehicle records from the Ministry of Transportation. The insurance companies require a three-year history.
Optional and Additional Coverage Policies
Under this additional insurance coverage policy the insured is covered for, collision, comprehensive, all perils and specified perils, with the deductible set at $500, with the option to pay a higher deductible to decrease premium rates. Additional coverage is also offered to the insured. These additional coverage’s are called endorsements and include loss of use of vehicle, waiver of depreciation, excluded driver endorsement and at fault “forgiveness” endorsement. Being safely insured in Ontario may require additional endorsements.
Premium Discounts
Discounts are offered by insurance companies for the following, low-mileage use, approved driver training courses, multiple-vehicle policies, retirees with no employment income and discounts for mature drivers over the age of 55 and anti-theft implementations. Additional insurance premium discounts will be given is the insured does not drive the vehicle in the winter season, increasing deductibles to lower premium rates and insurers who have a claim free history with the insurance company, while being safely insured in Ontario.
Insurance claims in Ontario and the U.S.A
The accidental benefits policy coverage for the insured is portable through Canada and the USA. The damage claims are handling in the typical fashion as in Canada with the exception of the direct compensation. In this case, vehicle damage in a claim of at-fault is compensated by the at-fault insurance policy holder.
